Collaboration Work of Steven and Ximena

Like two rivers converging to form a great current, Ximena Elgueda and Steven Ward have over the years found that working and sharing life and clay, has become a singular experience. Spiced by their different cultural upbringings and drawing upon various life experiences, they are obsessed by the potential of clay through fire to become stone. The true power of their work is in the dedication over time to site specific projects and the presence these works create when experienced in person.

Collaboration Work:

We have been sharing the same studio, clay, and kiln since 1997. Originally, we created our own individual works, yet one day, while playing, we started to work together. We have since discovered that our work parallels our daily life. Having met each other in Japan, we found a common language in the clay and fire, and, as a metaphor between us, ceramics serves to unveil our collective consciousness and "unearth" images to inspire our creativity.

2つの川が1つに繋がって大きな流れになるようにヒメナ・エゲルダとスティーブン・ウォードは数年にわたって共に働き、生活を共にして、粘土を共有することは奇異な経験になったことに気づきました。彼らの異なった文化や育ち方、様々な経験がスパイスとなって、彼らは粘土を火に入れると石になるという可能性の虜になりました。
彼らの制作の本当の力は、時間をかけて自ら経験して作り上げた特定のプロジェクトや作品を献納するにことにあります。

「私たちは二人とも公共的な場所での制作が好きです。壁がなく、ただ空のみ。私たちは直感に従って共同制作を行います。様々な人々に参加していただけるよう招待して共に制作します。私たちの制作は地域コミュニティの意識を広げ、将来の機会のために共同スペースを作ることを目指しており社会的です。」

共同制作

私たちは1997年から粘土と窯を共有してきました。元々は、個々の作品を作っていました。しかしある日、活動中に一緒に作り始めました。私たちの作品は日常生活と類似することを見出しました。日本で出会って、粘土と火という共通言語を見出し、私たちの間で比喩として、陶芸が私たちの共同の意識のベールを外し、そして私たちの創造力を引き起こすためのイメージを「湧かせる」のに役立っています。
