Earth Projects

Labyrinth

Project proposal for a park (unrealized). A land maze, where people walk the path which leads to a central plaza. (40 m x 40 m x 10 m)

CONCEPT: We propose a labyrinth like form that allows people of all ages to interact with, not only physically, but mentally and spiritually. A space that moves people, moves their bodies, their eyes, their hearts. We want to create a space that people can experience using all of their senses. We hope that by creating an opportunity for such an experience we will be creating a space for people and nature, including people's inner nature. A space conducive to insight. Our purpose is to make more than a piece of "art", we strive to make a space for the people to interact with, to experience the space as if they were inside the earth.

Artists explore and develop models for parks and plazas.

The crucial local resource for these projects are the community's involvement. Earth's malleable nature inevitably mirrors the hands by which it is formed. In this way, by using earth as a medium, we are in essence creating an experience that will permanently trace the fingerprints of those who participate it is creation. We want to create an opportunity for the community of Tokoname to actively participate in the art for their community: in the making, and use of. Such a project contributes to the mental and physical well being of the community by bringing together people who live in the same area, yet may not have the chance to create something together. Such a community project gives pride not only to the individual who can say: "I made that", but a sense of overall communal pride and connection.
